Any Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 14 or later. How big a model or job your Mac can take depends on its memory: LocalLab rates each one green, yellow or red for your Mac before you start.

Each tool runs an AI model on your Mac, and models are large — from under 1 GB to tens of gigabytes — so they are downloaded when you first use a tool rather than shipped with the app. After that, the tool works offline.

Green: it fits and runs well. Yellow: it will run, with a caveat — usually that you should close other apps to make room, or that it will take a while. Red: your Mac hasn’t the memory for it. Open “More options” on any tool, or Tools & your Mac, to see the arithmetic behind the rating.

In a LocalLab folder inside your Pictures, Movies and Music folders — pictures in Pictures, video in Movies, songs, speech, stems, transcripts and recordings in Music. Library in the app lists all of it.

Open Settings (⌘,) › Storage to see every model’s size and remove the ones you don’t need. You can also move the whole model library to another drive, including an external one.

The job needs more memory than is free right now. Quit apps you aren’t using, or add the job to the queue: LocalLab waits until there is room and then starts it.

LocalLab needs your permission to use the microphone. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone and turn LocalLab on, then press Record again.

No. The only connection LocalLab makes is to Hugging Face, to search for and download models. See the privacy policy.

That depends on the model that made it: each model has its own licence, which LocalLab shows before you install it and in More options. Read it before publishing or selling what you make.
